Lemonpeel Angelfish
Tahitian names
Pàraharaha
Interesting facts
This angelfish has a laterally compressed oval body that is yellow with a blue border around its eye, and a dorsal fin that is continuous and runs to the back of its body. All angelfish have a spur under the operculum. We typically find this specie on the rich bottoms with lots of stony corals on the exterior slope of the lagoon, but always close to a shelter. They live in scattered groups where a single large male rules over a group of small females. This fish is also a protogynous hermaphrodite (female to male) and omnivores (filamentous algae, small invertebrates, and organic detritus).
