Interesting facts
The Moorish Idol has a very compressed body, white in the front and yellow in the back with two large black bands. It has a long filament on its dorsal fin which can be confused with the Threadfin butterflyfish (Chaetodon auriga). This fish can be found in passes, along the oceanic slope, and in the lagoon, often in couples and sometimes in small groups. Its diet is mainly composed on sponges but can become sometimes microphagous and eats small particles (algae and micro-invertebrates) in large quantities.
