Interesting facts
The Striated Surgeonfish is present in the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region. The Hawaiian Archipelago, the Marquesas Islands and Easter Island are excluded. Its dark body is striped with thin bluish lines. It is usually seen inside the lagoon but sometimes it can be found on the outer reef slope. Its maximum size is 9.5 inches cm but the size generally observed is 7 inches. During the reproduction season large groups are formed. At Tetiaroa, in november, it’s common to see juveniles turning around coral heads to avoid predators such as Groupers and Trevallies. This fish eats mostly algae and small invertebrates.
